THURSDAYS 12th & 19th JUNE
Join Tom on a road trip through the vineyards of Spain, from the cool Atlantic coast of the north to the sun-baked old vines of the south east. We’ll look at Spain’s indigenous grape varieties and the regional styles that reflect both Spain’s vibrant culture and its varied growing conditions. Tom will guide you through each sip, sharing fascinating stories and insights into the wines and the country.
Whether you’re a seasoned wine aficionado or simply curious to explore new flavours, this dive deep into Spain’s wine scene will cover everything from fizz to the new breed of ‘orange’ wines. ¡Salud!
The Wines
Our six wines cover classic regions and styles, like Rioja and Cava for example, but delve into some more unusual wines and newer wine regions. Our Cava is a classic, traditional method blend of Xarel.lo, Macabeo and Parellada, but it is bottled with just 2g/l of residual sugar, following the fashion of Champagne’s great houses in bottling drier but fruit forward styles. From Navarra, an unexpected ‘orange’ wine, made with the skin contact technique of natural wines and rarely seen from Spain. From Alicante, a warming juicy red made from Monastrell, or Mourvèdre, and another unexpected gem from the holiday hot-spot of the Costa Blanca.
We have a Rioja, but this one is white. Intriguingly, half the blend is Tempranillo Blanco – a white mutation of Tempranillo discovered only in 1988, and permitted in Rioja wines since 2007. Another wine of the north – in this case the northwest – is our Mencia, certified organic, it is a delightful red wine from Bierzo on the border with Galicia. The final wine in our selection features one of Spain’s most important grapes: Garnacha. It comes from Campo de Borga, a stronghold of the variety with its vineyards in the foothills of the Moncayo mountain.
The selection costs £66.52. It can be collected from our supplier’s Edinburgh warehouse, and those who make their order up to £99+ will have it delivered free. Otherwise, delivery is £12.33 (£78.75 in total), which is a discount of £4.77 exclusively for this tasting.
How does it work?
The tasting is split over two consecutive Thursday evenings. We’ll open three bottles per night, but they’ll drink well through the weekend so nothing will be wasted. And remember: if you cannot join us live for any session, our ‘catch-up’ service allows you to taste along to the recordings at your leisure.
- Tasting tickets and wines are purchased separately
- The ticket price is per household, not per person
- The ticket covers both sessions
- After you purchase your ticket, you’ll see a link to buy the wines
- We’ll make a recording of each session in case you miss one
- You may attend without buying the wines.
Tasting in two parts, Thursdays 12th & 19th June 2025 at 7pm UK time.
